Prairie Township was established in 1856.
The settlers from Maine established a community that grew into a vigorous pioneer village that included 3 churches and stores, two lodge halls a blacksmith shop and a cheese factory.
The original building site was located 5 miles north of Kimball near the intersection of County Road 8 and Highway 15. View History of Maine Prairie.
The township is located in Stearns County in Central Minnesota. It includes the towns of Kimball and Marty (Pearl Lake).
Legal Notices
Meeting Change Notice: Due to the Legislature moving the Primary Election to August 10th this year, the board is required to moved it's August meeting to August 17, 2010. It is law the township can not meet on a government election day.
Notice of Adding Ordinance #010-07-01: Ordinance Authorizing a Study of Hunting Clubs and Shooting Preserves and Temporarily Classifying Those uses as Interim Uses Under the Town's Zoning Ordinance- The Town Board of Maine Prairie Township, Stearns County adopted Ordinance No. 010-07-01 authorizing a study and imposing an interim ordinance to temporarily classify hunting clubs and shooting preserves as interim uses within the A160, A80, and A-40 zoning districts within the Town. The interim ordinance shall be in effect for 12 months, unless repealed earlier. Election Information: Election Judge training is just about completed. Election Clerk is Terre Harff with shared duties with Alice Robinson as the Head Judges. Keep in mind that the Primary Election is on August 10th, 8:00a.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Kimball Area Fire and Rescue Hall. Maine Prairie township has now become a two precinct township. Both precincts will be voting at the Kimball Area Fire & Rescue Hall, 300 N Elm St, Kimball. The Maine Prairie North residents will be in Precinct 2, receiving a different ballot because of the different voting district they reside in. The rest of the township will be in Precinct 1.
Spraying Notification: Maine Prairie Township has given legal notice that they will be spraying the road right of ways again this year. This notification is to remind the residents to take care of your noxious weeds. Reports will be written up and sent to the county. The township is required by State Statute 18.78 to enforce this law. If you do not want your right of way sprayed, please call Clerk, Terre Harff at 320-398-2905. If you choose not to have it sprayed, it is your responsibility to mow or remove weeds in the right of way for your land. If you already mow your road ditches, they will not be sprayed.
