Maine Prairie Town Hall Meeting
September 1, 2011 – 6:30 p.m.

Supervisor Loewen opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag.  All Committee members were present.

The purpose of this meeting was to review some of the projected cost figures that were gathered.

It was noted that these are just preliminary figures and names of the companies offering the quotes are to remain anonymous so everyone is on an equal basis when the time comes to call up for bids.

The quotes were based on the new drawing of the building.  The building was quoted with steel siding, steel roof, built on a slab, 9’ ceilings, dual heat, lower kitchenette cabinets, one stall bathrooms, and smaller storage areas.

The figures came in at $205,884.00 to cover everything.  This comes to $68.53 a sq foot.  The old plan would have cost approx. $247,000.00 with the square footage figure.  The electric would cost $600 for the first 100’ and $16.00 a foot after.

Financing was discussed, weather to build now or later, donations could be available from Stearns & Meeker utilities, Blanding foundations and HAVA to make it handicap accessible.  Clerk Harff offered to check into the HAVA grant at the State Auditor’s website.  Residents will want to know about the yearly expense for having a town hall.

Some building design items discussed were ceramic over vinyl, with cement stamping as another option.  Dual heat with gas & electric, a heat pump also discussed.  It was mentioned that the gas line might be close by.

Clerk Harff explained that the legal that was in the August saturation issue of the Tri Co News will also be in the paper for the September saturation issue right before the September 22nd meeting.  There was a question about the sentence concerning the City of Kimball and building onto the fire hall.  Some felt that should not be in there.  It was explained that it is important to disclose all the information available.

Clerk Harff asked what needs to be displayed on September 22nd.  It was decided to have the last drawing available if asked but to strictly discuss the budget needed to build.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
