Maine Prairie Town Hall Meeting
June 21, 2011
6:30 p.m.

Chair Loewen opened the board meeting with the pledge to the flag.

Members present: Dennis Loewen, Terre Harff, Jim Unterberger, Chuck Froehling, and Ann Craft.

Loewen explained, by the direction of the board, for the committee to come up with a new design, scaling back on the size of the building and address the other options put forth.

The committee decided no change in office area, maintenance area and meeting room area.  They also feel the need of a kitchen, bathrooms and storage area.

The committee scaled back the kitchen area, continue to put plumbing in but only with sink area, remove upper cabinets.  The discussion was if they don’t add plumbing now, it would be so expensive to do it later.  The size of the bathroom is scaled by to one sink, one stall in ladies room also one sink, one stall, and one urinal in men’s bathroom.   All being handicap assessable.  Eliminate the garage and put a 20X16 storage area where the bathrooms and kitchen area were scaled back at.  It was also suggested to scale back the hall area and have the kitchen area extended into this hall.

Steel roofing was discussed; it would be more costly but would last longer.  Also discussion was to leave all the windows and the over-hang by the door in the plan.

Other options discussed:
        1)      Swan’s Café – Loewen announced a bid of $225,000 was turned down by the bank.
        2)      Fire Hall Addition – No cost figures were presented.
        3)      Project One - To rent the old Theisen building with 1500 sq ft meeting area, 12X12 office area,      10x10 file area, 32X32 cold storage area w/10 year lease at a cost of $9,000 a year including utilities.  With the storage area, it would be $11,100.
        4)      Dave Lochen is also showing interest in building a hall for rent in his storage unit area.

Loewen will bring this information back to the board.  Chuck will have someone he knows draw up a new plan.  The cost of this will be covered by the township.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
