The settlers from Maine established a community that grew into a vigorous pioneer village that included 3 churches and stores, two lodge halls a blacksmith shop and a cheese factory.
The original building site was located 5 miles north of Kimball near the intersection of County Road 8 and Highway 15. View History of Maine Prairie.
Maine Prairie Township covers approximately 37,395 acres, has 1,310 parcels of land and approximately 77.8 miles of road.
The 2007 Census data shows there are estimated 1,740 residents and 635 households in the Township.
Official Notices
The official newspaper for the Township is the Tri-County News. This is where you will find the times and dates for regular meetings, annual meeting, special meetings, and requests for variances, notice of meeting changes, elections notices, etc.
Fire and Rescue
The Township is serviced by the volunteer Kimball Area Fire and Rescue, Watkins Fire and Rescue and Rockville Fire and Rescue Departments. For fire and rescue emergencies dial 911.
Ordinance Enforcement
The township has an agreement with the City of Kimball police Department to provide enforcement for all Township Ordinances.
